Pathology Laboratory

Pathology
A laboratory that runs on process
Most laboratory errors are not analytical — they happen before and after the analyser. The centre puts its effort where the risk actually is: identification at collection, tracking through processing, and a real check before release.
Collection & identification
The sample is labelled and barcoded in front of the patient, against the requisition — never labelled later from memory.
Processing & analysis
Each barcode is scanned at every handover, so the sample's route through the laboratory is recorded rather than assumed.
Verification & release
Controls are checked, abnormal results are reviewed, and a critical value triggers a phone call before the report is filed.
Laboratory disciplines
